Preview the Children's Book of Mormon Study Journal
Are you ready to dive into the Book of Mormon in a whole new way? The Children’s Book of Mormon Study Journal makes scripture study fun, engaging, and meaningful! Designed to help kids practice reading and writing while strengthening their faith, this spiral bound journal turns scripture stories into easy to read adventures with Lehi, Nephi, and Jacob.
"Look For" items
Improve reading comprehension and retentionEach chapter has 3 things to look for, and the children are looking for those things! They view it as a treasure hunt. This dramatically improves reading comprehension and retention.
Here is an example from 1 Nephi 7 – The Call of Ishmael’s Family
Look for:
- Why does Ishmael’s family join Lehi’s group?
- What happens during the journey back to the wilderness?
- How does Nephi respond to danger?
Chapter Summary
Simplified and personalizedEach chapter is simplified to be read at a 3rd-4th grade reading level, and reads somewhere between the scriptures and a storybook.
Emotion we may have missed is highlighted, such as the personal and emotional pain Nephi would have felt dealing with his older brothers, whom he loved but was betrayed by, or the love and concern Jacob has for his people.

Journal Prompts
Helping children "liken the scriptures" to themselvesEach journal idea has been carefully crafted and inspired by important lessons to learn from each chapter, giving the opportunity for children to cement what they learned, and develop a love for the Book of Mormon as they see it applying to themselves.
Here is an example from 1 Nephi 15 – Understanding the Vision of the Tree of Life:
Journal Idea: Sometimes we have to choose to be calm even when we feel sad, scared, or angry, as Nephi felt when he needed to teach his brothers. This showed his ability to be a great leader. Write of a time you were tempted to get upset, but chose to instead to be calm.
If you can’t think of one, write a promise to take five deep breaths the next time you get angry or sad before responding to your parents, siblings, or friends, so you can answer calmly the way Nephi did.
Your written promise might look like this, “I, [your first name], promise to take 5 deep breaths the next time I get angry or upset before I speak, so I can be calm like Nephi and Christ, and be a good leader in my home.”
